Return to the river in search of the muse
Limb-slipping
Skull skimming
Struggling upstream, further and deeper.
Swim beyond the confines
Of the grounds.
Far from the squeals of delight,
The picnics
And sun-dappled banks.
Swim back to the place where the willows weep
And the swallows dip,
Where the damsel flies glint
In mingled innocence and arrogance —
Flitting and feeding,
Mating and playing at life.
Further and deeper
Beyond the confines
Of the grounds.
Away from the willows, the swallows, the damsels, the squeals.
Away from the weeping and playing at life.
Upstream and away.
Upstream and away.
