The Book Group
“I didn’t like it.”
“Hang on, Jean, I haven’t even chosen my snacks yet. You just can’t leap in with a sweeping statement like that. Tom, sweetie, could you top me up with some red?”
“I’m sorry, Thandi, I know it was your choice, but I thought I’d just say it like it is. I didn’t like it.”
Jean wasn’t by nature negative, but she had an unfortunate way of ‘saying it like it is’ that shut down any competing opinions. In a book group comprising mostly menopausal women, that could be unhelpful.
